New LSAA Awards
In memory of our late President, Gwyn Williams, there will be two awards awarded each year for the best performances, one by a girl and one by a boy, at the LSAA main Track & Field Championships. We had originally hoped that in 2021 these Awards would be presented to the winners by Rosemary Williams at the Team Meeting in July. But we had to hold that via Zoom this year so the Awards were presented to the athletes by Anthony Soalla-Bell at the end of the appropriate day at the ESAA T&F championships in Manchester in July. We hope that in 2022 Rosemary will be able to present the Awards in person at a suitable date after the LSAA T&F championships.
The winners this year were:
Renee Regis Intermediate Girl who won the 100m in a national standard time of 12.12 secs
Alexander Abebrese Junior Boy who won the Shot Putt with a national standard throw of 15.21m.
Further details on all LSAA awards are in preparation and will be added to the website in the next few months.
Rosemary and her family have asked us to pass on their thanks to all those in LSAA who kindly donated in Gwyn’s memory to the Royal Marsden Hospital. A total of £1150 was raised.
New President of LSAA
We are delighted that Mick Bond has accepted our invitation to be President of LSAA. Mick’s link with our Association began in 1974 when he represented London Schools in the JB 100m at the ESAA T&F championships, in the early years of Gwyn Williams being a London team manager. From finishing 6th in the JB final in 1974 Mick progressed to winning a bronze medal in IB 100m in 1976 and GOLD in SB 100m in 1977. When Bridget Yule took on organising the LSAA main T&F championships in 2002 Mick had already been the Greenwich Schools team manager for more than 5 years – a role he still holds today. In 2006 Mick kindly took on organising the LSAA year 7&8 cross country championships and in 2008, with his team at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, took on responsibility for organising the LSAA Combined Events championships.
