Please note:

ESAA Cup competitions (cross-country and Track & Field) are NOT organised by LSAA (although the local and regional Cup competitions are currently overseen by Marilyn Walker who is also the LSAA championships organiser). Also, the age-groups for Cup competitions are different to those for LSAA and ESAA championships.

ESAA Track and Field Championships 2021

We nominated 38 athletes to ESAA, they were all selected. Two athletes had to withdraw – one because selected for GB to compete at European U20 championships, the other had to self-isolate.

Once we had looked at costs of travel and accommodation it was agreed that the 13 athletes who opted to travel with team managers would do so by train on the day, with 2 team managers accompanying each age-group. Anthony Soalla-Bell and Matthew Burdekin were in Manchester the whole time so there were always 4 London team managers there.

Although we had far fewer athletes than at previous ESAA championships there were many outstanding performances:

10 medals were won – 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze representing 27.8% of the athletes. (higher than the 13 individual medallists from team of 69 in 2019, which was 18.8%).

The Juniors had the most successful day with 5 winning medals (55.6%); Seniors won 3 (23.1%) and Intermediates 2 (14.3%). All but one Junior athlete finished in the top 8.

Overall, 12 athletes finished in positions 4-8 (33.3%) compared to 14 (20.3%) in 2019.

23 athletes (63.9%) achieved an ESAA standard at the championships – in 2019 it was 59.4%.

11 athletes achieved a pb or sb (30.6%) – in 2019 it was 29%.

The results of the London athletes at these championships are given here – ESAA T&F results 2021.
